A crisis hiding in plain sight

You might not know, but every year a total of 416,000 people die in two-wheeler vehicle accidents worldwide¹, and road traffic injuries are now the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5-29.²

To put this in perspective:  this is equivalent to three 747 airplanes crashing every day. Yet nobody seems to notice.

92% of these two-wheeler deaths occur in low and middle-income countries such as India, Indonesia, and Taiwan, where low-cost two-wheelers make up 63% of the vehicles on the road. These are countries where people depend on two-wheeled vehicles to get to work, school, and as the foundation of their economic livelihoods.  

These injuries & deaths also impose a heavy toll on surrounding economies, costing the world $1.26 trillion per year, or a whopping 1.3% of global GDP³ in treatment costs and loss of productivity (i.e. equivalent to 1/2 of the global military defense spending⁴, or the total projected economic costs of climate change in 2050⁵).

It’s time for a change.

At Roadio, our mission is to make two-wheelers safer than cars.

By training cutting-edge AI models and embedding them into each vehicle, our goal is to transform everyday motorcycles into “smart machines” capable of predicting and reacting to possible collisions multiple times faster than any rider.  

We’ve started with the most common collision scenarios (front and rear collisions, which constitute 57% of accidents with other moving vehicles⁶) and then are continuing to train our AI models on additional capabilities over time. Eventually, we believe we can reach the same safety level as cars (23x safer than today!).

And we can deliver it all for less than the cost of a good helmet.  

This has the potential to reduce two-wheeler collisions by 96%, save 390,000 lives per year, and ultimately improve the economic livelihoods of over 1.5 billion riders worldwide.
